1. What is a caricature?
A caricature is a parody drawn of a person or a situation. The point is to highlight the essential features of a face, to emphasize or to understate the peculiarities of the model. There are always artists who draw indeed big heads but do not "exaggerate" them, so they are actually just normal portraits on small bodies.
Caricatures can be roughly divided into two areas:
Live (from model): at events or booths
Studio (from photo): Political caricature, humorous illustration, gift caricature
2. Can I book you also for events?
No, I only make caricatures based on photos.
3. What kind of photos do you need to make a drawing?
The easiest are digital photos by e-mail. But paper photos by mail are also possible. In any case, the face should be as large as possible (full screen or bigger at 100% view). If possible, several to choose from. Unsuitable photos are: too small or of poor quality (dark, blurry, grainy).
4. Do you also draw group caricatures?
I'm specialized more in individuals. Groups only up to six people.
5. Is a group photo needed for this?
No, you are welcome to send individual photos, which is often even better, since the particular faces are then larger and closer to recognize.
6. What kind of styles/techniques do you offer?
Line drawing, black & white and color.
7. The difference between line drawing and black & white?
Line drawing is the simpler version (contour drawing), black & white is more complex (with shades).
8. What kind of materials do you use?
(Black) colored pencil on solid cardboard (Bristol, 615 g/sqm). NO canvas.
9. What sizes are available?
DIN A4, A3 and A2
10. How is the caricature shipped?
As flat package, no role: (1) original drawing in transparent envelope ► (2) two layers of bookbinder cardboard, each 3 mm thick ► (3) sheet pack ► (4) packed
11. How long does it take?
Delivery time is about 3-4 weeks.
12. How to pay?
By payment in advance/bank transfer.
13. Will I get to see a sketch beforehand?
I always show a draft before finishing a drawing. Corrections are still possible at this stage.
14. How is the exact process of a commission?
For a portrait caricature I only need pictures of the face. For a whole figure, in addition a description of the subject or a list of "properties" (occupation, hobby, or similar). After that I draw a sketch, and once you are happy with it, the caricature will be completed in the desired style and send to you.
15. How much are the costs?
Depending on the effort: Portrait or whole figure, format (A4, A3, A2), technique (line drawing, black & white, color), number of persons. Prices from 75,– Euro. Full price list available on request: Contact
16. Are there any additional shipping costs?
Within Germany the shipping is free. The costs abroad depend on destination and packet size.
